INEOS AUTOMOTIVE CEO STATEMENT FROM LYNN CALDER FOLLOWING US ‘LIBERATION DAY’ ANNOUNCEMENT
London, 4 April 2025
“Now that we’re all in a new era of uncertainty, I think it’s crucial for us to be really clear with our customers. It’s costing us 25% more today to sell a Grenadier in the US than it was a few days ago.
But we’re a new, small, ambitious brand, and with the support of our retail network we’re committed to fighting to keep our valued customers. We are protecting them as much as we can from price increases resulting from the tariffs.
So, what’s next?
Any orders placed before April 3 are entirely price protected: customers will pay no more than what they signed up for.
With orders placed from April 3 onwards, we’ve sheltered customers from the full impact of the tariffs, but it’s just impossible for us to absorb the whole 25% tariff cost.
So, applicable from April 3, prices have increased by 5% for the Grenadier station wagon: it now starts from $78,900.
With the Quartermaster pick-up, we’d only recently reduced its price from $103,000 to $83,000 to counter the 25% chicken tax on imported pick-ups. So now, despite the tariffs, we’re limiting the April 3 price increase by 10%, with the new starting price set at $92,900.
The responsibility for this situation lies at the feet of EU politicians who have failed to negotiate an equitable automotive trade deal with the US, despite the warnings. I desperately hope that they are working around the clock to positively resolve the impasse, rather than escalate it and trigger a trade war.”

About INEOS Grenadier
In 2017, INEOS Chairman Jim Ratcliffe, a car enthusiast and experienced adventurer, identified a gap in the market for an uncompromising 4X4 engineered for modern day compliance and reliability. INEOS Automotive Limited was formed and a senior team of automotive professionals assembled to bring the vision to reality with a fresh perspective of 4X4 development and manufacturing.
In 2022 the INEOS Grenadier was launched: a truly global 4X4 built from the ground up that combines rugged British spirit and design with German engineering rigour. The Grenadier provides best-in-class off-road capability, durability, and reliability with the modern comfort and refinement customers expect wherever they are in the world. In 2023 a double-cab pick-up variant of the Grenadier was launched called the Quartermaster, and in February 2024 a third vehicle line called the INEOS Fusilier was unveiled which will offer two powertrain options to meet global consumer needs: an all-electric and a range-extender electric.
INEOS Automotive is a subsidiary of INEOS, a leading manufacturer of petrochemicals, speciality chemicals and oil products. It employs 26,000 people across 36 businesses, with a production network spanning 194 sites in 29 countries.
